Our Impact

The Nebraska HIA is providing the foundation that enables the Heartland’s economy to thrive again. For manufacturers and consumers, small to large businesses, companies and farmers, industrial hemp is the basic building block that allows a great sweep of new economic activity to take place across the country.

From providing some of the highest-paying jobs in America to protecting the environment through regenerative agriculture, phyto/bio-accumulation, and green operations to delivering the raw materials and finished goods Americans will come to rely on every day, the hemp industry will have a huge impact on our economy, global trade and modern life as we know it.

Our Programs

The NEHIA H.E.R.O. Program is designed for new producers who want to increase their knowledge and improve themselves and their operations in every aspect. All sessions are focused on maximizing the long-term viability of the operation through the latest research, emerging technologies, farm management practices, and peer relationships. The experience provides relevant, current and bottom-line information that is the best the industry has to offer.

The H.E.R.O. Program consists of three one-day sessions plus attendance at the quarterly meeting of the Nebraska Hemp Industries Association (NEHIA). You can expect a time commitment of 9 to 12 days away from your farm (or business) over a 12-month period. Session locations are determined once participants have been selected. A maximum of 12 hemp farmers and 12 hemp businesses are selected to participate each year.

farming

The 2018 Farm Bill reclassified hemp, and it is now legal to grow industrial hemp. This means, once policies are in place (fall of 2019), hemp growers will be eligible for many USDA programs. The Whole-Farm Revenue Protection, or WFRP, is available to hemp growers beginning the 2020 crop year. As USDA agencies fully implement Farm Bill provisions, additional crop insurance options will be available.

Manufacturing

Industrial hemp can be manufactured into over 50,000+ products and uses. From building materials, textiles, biofuels, hemp plastics and paper, to ethanol/CO2 extracted CBD oils, industrial hemp is bringing back American manufacturing to the domestic Heartland.

Processing

Industrial hemp is an agricultural commodity that is cultivated for use in the production of a wide range of products, including foods and beverages, cosmetics and personal care products, nutritional supplements, fabrics and textiles, yarns and spun fibers, paper, construction and insulation materials, and other manufactured goods. Hemp can be grown for fiber, seed, or CBD flower/biomass.

Retailers

Hemp and CBD are on small and major retailers’ radar. The CBD market is moving towards mainstream retailers and is projected to be over $20 billion in sales by 2024. Walgreens, Sprout, CVS, Ulta Beauty, GNC Holdings, Urban Outfitters are just a handful of retailers offering or looking to offer, CBD products to consumers.

Get Involved

The aim of the NEHIA is to support candidates who champion the hemp industry by making decisions about laws and regulations that enhance the business climate for profitable hemp production in Nebraska and foster opportunities for expansion. We will always be judicious with our contributions to support the strongest candidates regardless of party.

The NEHIA hosts several events to raise funds for the continued education and resources of Nebraska hemp advocates.  NEHIA events will be held in Omaha and Lincoln in October and November 2019 in conjunction with the HIAcon.

Donations are gladly accepted. As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on donations from our supporters and members. The NEHIA is a 501(c)(6) non-profit trade group, and donations are NOT tax-deductible. We appreciate any help!
